Apply Oatmeal and Say Goodbye to Eczema

Skin Health and Food Treatments

Although it is typically something that happens to us when we are infants, eczema can actually strike at any time in life. If you have never experienced the itching and skin eruptions that usually accompany this problem, consider yourself among the fortunate few. For some people, it becomes almost a debilitating illness that is very difficult to control. As a matter of fact, many people search high and low for a natural cure that will take care of this problem once and for all.

That isn’t to say that there are not plenty of pharmaceutical cures that are available for this particular issue. As a matter of fact, the drugstore is full of different treatments that claim to be able to take care of eczema and get rid of it once and for all. Most of us that have been dealing with eczema for any length of time has already run the gamut as far as these different treatments are concerned. Unfortunately, if they do work, they only work temporarily and often, eczema comes back with a vengeance. Not only that, many of these drugstore treatments contain harsh chemicals that get absorbed directly into your body through the skin.

If you’re looking for a way to handle this situation without having to concern yourself with harmful chemicals, the answer may be as close to you as your breakfast table. Actually, oatmeal has been a favored treatment for people who have eczema and it is used in a number of different ways. People with eczema tend to take oatmeal baths in which they will put a couple of cups of oats and their bathwater, making sure not to draw the water too hot. There’s another way of using oatmeal, however, that may also help with eczema.

If you are experiencing itching, flaking and many of the other problems that go along with eczema, you may experience temporary relief by putting oatmeal directly on to the problem. You will want to make sure that the oatmeal was not too hot as this may actually irritate the situation more than it helps. I prefer to put it on at room temperature, making sure that it is moist enough that it spreads easily. It gives me almost instant relief from the itching and the properties inside of the oats help to smooth the skin and to moisturize it naturally.
